Light ideas

Filed under: Light needs — by accessahut @ 9:39 pm

Both of us need light (we both have SAD and we want to live in as light a place as possible). But MaJe has sun sensitivity. So all windows would have to be UV protected.

So we want to maximize the amount of light–not just for passive solar purposes but for our quality of life.

Here are some ideas:

  • Have one long wall with a high window (from the ceiling down for 2 feet all along that wall)
  • Have the other long wall with a large window at living level (between 3 feet from the floor and 3 feet from the ceiling) all along that wall. (Deena’s bed would be a murphy bed so the window along her bed would not be blocked when her bed is down)
  • Slant the roof (for snowy climates). All roofing material will be plexiglass or other transparent materials to maximize light.
  • The roof will be tinted–except over the heads of our beds so we can lie in bed and look at the sky. We will need to rig something so that we can shade the non-tinted areas as needed.
