We have MOVED IN

Filed under: Uncategorized — by accessahut @ 5:37 pm

After months of agonizing delays–so agonizing that I could not bear to write about it, we have moved in.

Of course, that meant that I collapsed with exhaustion several times, so this is the first chance I have had to write about moving in.

Lessons learned:
1) A small house will NOT save you that much money. Houses require certain things (kitchens, bathroom, heat, water, air conditioning–which is critical for ill folks). These will run you about the same no matter what.
2) Contractors are NOT licensed in Colorado. Therefore, it is difficult to check their work. ALWAYS FIRST hire a contractor representative (that is, an experienced contractor who does not do the work, but gets paid hourly by you to represent you and make sure the work is done properly.)

So, we spent our retirement money and spent the summer in a friend’s garage apartment until this was done.

However, the access is just what we hoped for–and the house is supremely doable for us. We can actually get to the bathroom (8 steps from the bed) and the kitchen (12 steps) at night. We can move about. We can clean up by ourselves.

Hooray!
