Noise and more noise

Filed under: Uncategorized — by accessahut @ 1:00 pm

I have very sensitive hearing, which is getting worse as I grow older–I have hearing damage now in the range outside of human hearing. So sound enters my head as pain instead of just sound. And when I have the sound headache, any sound just makes it worse.

The sound is entering from my neighbor’s yard as he revs a truck about 15 feet away at 3 am – 3:15 am, 6 am – 6:30 am, and 4 pm – 4:15 pm and 5:30 pm every day, including Saturdays.

The sound is entering from the street as kids go by with massive boomboxes in their stereo cars. This emits a low-base sound that enters my skull like a sledgehammer at odd hours. Friday nights, Saturday nights are the worst.

The sound is entering from across the street (a school) with a shrill bell at 7:15 am every week day (and one day every 15 minutes on a Sunday when the bell broke.)

The sound is entering from my backyard as my caretaker’s kids play –this noise is pretty controllable–I give them popsicles and send them to the front yard…

The house is tile (because I get sick a lot) and the tile is SUPPOSED to be sound-absorbent, but it is not. The inside noises are the refrigerator and the insta-hot water tap. I love my insta-hot tap. But it does make noise. I try not to open the refrigerator for 2 hours before I go to bed, but this does not help.

FANTASY SOLUTION: I have been fantasizing about a curtained area over my bed using industrial-strength noise absorbers. That way, when things get too bad, I can just retreat there. Or I have a small closet we could put sound absorbers on. And I could get better, sound proof windows–but we just bought sound-proof windows when we constructed the house…
