Ok ok ok. Apparently I am too intense. I’ve just gotten here and been told to chill. There are about 5 people doing a job that should take half a person!! ? I, too, am bewildered and piscivorous. Salmon is pronounced “saaal-mon” but only by the lower classes. Apparently, apartheid is evident from the voice itself–a certain accent over the phone means a very different thing here.

odd, odd, oddsbodkins.

  1. I’ve been telling you you’re too intense for years. On the one hand, maybe it’s what makes you travel across the world when experience tells you you’ll struggle ridiculously because others refuse to accommodate your disability. On the other, I’d like to see you out of crisis mode now and then.

In Belfast, I learned a similar thing; there’s a subtle distinction in word choice and pronunciation between the Brits – even those born in northern Ireland – and the Fenians (Irish). Even if you were born a block apart, you can’t recite the alphabet without giving yourself away. They can identify each other in short order.
